With over 145 years of experience, Sauquoit Valley Insurance Co. has been serving the community since 1878!

When farmers were finding it difficult to obtain affordable fire insurance being offered by stock companies, a group of farmers gathered from Sauquoit and its surrounding areas. Led by the prime mover of the idea, Eli Overton, the farmers formed the Sauquoit Valley Farmers Association on February 21st, 1878. Elected officials included John M. Porter as president, O.D Head as vice president, and Eli C. Birdseye as secretary. Thanks to hard work from the officials, the organization and growth of the association was a success. By 1911, the Sauquoit Valley Farmers Association had grown to 1,673 Policies amounting to nearly $4,000,000 in insurance.

On January 1, 1951, our Association opened an office in Clinton, NY. The phone number at the time was 54-J. By December of 1952 our Association has a total of $53,379.97 in assets on hand. Our association celebrated its 75th anniversary on February 21, 1953, saving farmers and rural residents of Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, and Otsego counties thousands of dollars in fire insurance costs.

Over the years, our name was changed to Sauquoit Valley Insurance Company and we are proud to adhere to our original and basic mission — comprehensive insurance for farmers and homeowners at affordable rates. We are proud to say that we are still the only company left in New York that still writes our own policies! Sauquoit Valley Insurance Co. now serves the Central New York area— and its president/general manager is Noah Ives. It’s owned by over 1,600 policyholders and is overseen by a board of directors. We are located at 10170 Roberts Road in Sauquoit, New York.
